After details about the standard X6, BMW is preparing the most exciting package for its coupe SUV. The M version brings some serious updates that will stun even fans that are on Audi’s or Mercedes’ side. Exterior upgrades are eye-catching, while the interior is breathtaking. Under the hood, the 2021 BMW X6 M is taking the special treatment. A 4.4-liter V8 will be able to deliver more power than it is capable for the standard edition. Compared to the X5 M, the coupe SUV offers less headroom at the back. There are also other changes and similarities, but we will discuss them later in this review.
Currently, we know the base version is going to get a redesign next year. The shape will be carried over to the 2021 BMW X6 M. We could see the test mule, but it was heavily covered, not showing a glimpse of what to expect from it. We could also peek in the cabin, but the situation is the same there. A lot of covers, but the company didn’t hide detail from the sharp eyes of its biggest fans. Under the hood, the X6M will continue to squeeze every pony out of the 4.4-liter V8 engine. Again, the output is still unknown. According to some leaking stories, the upcoming performance SUV will be more powerful than ever.
What Do We Know So Far?
Only a couple of things are already certain about the 2021 BMW X6 M. The SUV is getting a redesign, like its base sibling. So, the X6 will arrive at the 2020 year model, while the M package follows a year later. The performance-oriented SUV was spied in Germany. Under the heavy camo, we can recognize only the famous kidney grille and a few other details. Headlights and air dams are pretty much the same as before, while the bumper is well hidden behind the panels. The M model is going to have the same dimensions as the standard model. Experts say the rear end slope is making the back lower. It is hard to recognize because it is maybe a 1-inch difference.
What Else Can We Expect?
Besides the things we saw (or not), we can also be sure the new 2021 BMW X6 M will come with a log of M-badging. Blue and red stripes will show you immediately what model this is. One of the badges will take the position at the center of wheel, which are probably 20-inchers. The company could push it upwards to 21 inches. Inside the cabin will be less headroom thanks to the sloping roof. Do not even think about the third row. The X5 is the SUV for you if you need 7-seater.
Some of the interior features will be carried over from the new X5 and X6. Of course, the M Package is bringing a lot of unique details and equipment, making it sportier and more luxurious. Besides a couple of spy photos, we don’t have too many clues about the interior of the 2021 BMW X6 M.
2021 BMW X6 M Engine and Specs
Under the hood of the 2021 BMW X6 M will definitely lay a 4.4-liter V8. That is the sure thing. BMW can’t offer anything better and more powerful than that one. Unless they stun the entire industry with the new engine. A V8 will be able to produce over 600 horsepower. Currently, the SUV sits at 600, and the optional package is pushing it to 617 hp. On the other hand, the all-new X7 M will be capable to deliver over 650 hp. The X6 M will be somewhere between these values. The SUV will still need at least 4 seconds for 0-60 mph sprint.
2021 BMW X6 M vs Mercedes GLE AMG
The battle between BMW and Mercedes is present in every segment. Well, the current focus is on the full-size segment, where BMW introduced the all-new X7 and the M package is coming next year. Mercedes is also active, with the new generation of the GLS on the way, with hybrid engines and more luxurious AMG package. We already got used to the X6M vs GLE AMG rivalry. These two performance-oriented SUVs will share the market again and fight for more buyers. The price is better than for the full-size models. You will still need a six-digit check to obtain your model.
