The newest generation BMW X3 has been here since the late
2017 introduction and a luxury, compact crossover SUV has been up to brand’s
standards and customers’ expectations. But the model has been expected for a
long time to get the M-performance version and the high-potent X3 made the
debut recently as the 2020 BMW X3M. The new BMW X3 will compete with the
Mercedes AMG GLC63.
The new BMX X3M comes with a more menacing look and specially treated interior. However, what makes the model special is the potent twin-turbo inline-6 engine which exceeded the expectations and the brand offers also the more potent M Competition model. The M version underwent also some chassis and suspension upgrades and comes, of course, with the improved braking system. The brand presented also the mechanically identical BMW X4M.
2020 BMW X3M: Performance upgrades
As it was expected earlier, the high-performance 2020 BMW
X3M will be powered by the S58 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine but
the engine delivers more power than we expected. BMW brings the X3M model in
two states of tune and the engine is more powerful than in the M3.
The entry-level version will drain 473 horsepower and 442
pound-feet from the bi-turbo inline-6 engine. However, the M Completion version
will have the most powerful six-cylinder engine ever under the hood of some BMW
model. This version will have at the disposal 503 horsepower and 442 pound-feet
of torque. The less powerful X3M will need 4.1 seconds to hit 60 mph while the
Competition version will do the same in 4.0 seconds.
With the mighty inline-6 engine under the hood, the X3M
comes also with the upgraded chassis and it has new front and rear subframes
and additional bracing across the suspension. The M performance version has
also the improved suspension with the M-tuned front wishbone suspension
elements, bushings, bearings and control arms. The model gets also the
M-calibrated adaptive dampers and electronic steering system adapted from the
The standard equipment on the models are also the 8-speed
automatic transmission and the all-wheel-drive system tweaked also by the M
Division. The four-wheel drive system can transfer more power to the rear
wheels in Sport mode while the active
rear differential can split the power between the wheels.
The X3M version uses also the upgraded braking system with 15.6-inch rotors with 4-piston calipers up front and rear 14.6-inch rotors with sliding calipers.
2020 BMW X3M: Exterior, Interior
The 2020 BMW X3M will also get the attention with the more
aggressive appearance that is common for the M versions.
The model bears the M signature blacked out grille version
and standard LED headlights. The resculpted front bumper has the enlarged air
inlets. The model stands out also with the unique rear bumper and diffuser plus
the larger tailgate spoiler and four-pipe exhaust setup.
The Completion version gets the gloss black treatment around
the grille and mirror caps, side gills and black spoiler. The base X3M rides on
the 20-inch standard wheels and the Completion model uses the 21-inch design.
Inside the cabin, the M version includes sport seats treated
with the leather upholstery and aluminum carbon trim. The M Division
fingerprints are also seen on the steering wheel, gear selector and instrument
panel. The Competition variant uses bi-color, softer leather seats.
