A recently redesigned Mazda CX-5 is among best choices in the segment and despite it doesn’t deliver the best numbers in any aspect this well-rounded, compact crossover wins with a great combination of the engaging ride and handling as well as upscale look and interior. The model was redesigned for the 2017 model year and Mazda added more standard features including some of the advanced safety systems plus other goodies for the 2018 version. The petrol engine also gained the cylinder deactivation system for better efficiency but the diesel option hasn’t arrived yet.
The next version of this model, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 won’t bring big changes into play. The refreshed version is expected in 2020 while the next redesign should be in 2022. Promised diesel hasn’t yet arrived and it could be the biggest upgrade for the 2019 model year. Mazda will also make some equipment regrouping.
2019 Mazda CX-5: Design
The fresh Mazda CX-5 is probably the best-looking crossover in the segment and that will continue to be for the 2019 model year despite we won’t see any notable change in its appearance. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 will likely offer new color options, new wheel designs and possibly special exterior package while some refreshments should be expected for 2020 version.
The newest CX-5 looks polished and elegant while tight lines and dynamic profile add a dose of sportiness. Narrow headlights and tealights fit nice with body contours while the shield-shaped grille defines model’s origin. The long hood and steep windshield also provide more dynamic look when seen from the profile.
Inside the cabin, the CX-5 will feel expensive in each trim and simple dash layout will provide easy reach for all controls. The front seats will deliver long-ride comfort while the rear legroom and space won’t be so generous. The cargo space isn’t also the best side of the model and max capacity reaches 60 cubes.
Equipment wise, the CX-5 will be generous from the base trims. By default, this model will offer the leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 7-inch infotainment interface, LED headlights, and many active safety features. The blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, low-speed emergency braking will assist on all models. The base version will also be available with the adaptive cruise control, automatic headlights, active lane control, rain-sensing wipers, etc.
For the heated front and rear seats, upgraded upholstery, larger wheels, memory settings, etc. one will have to enter higher trims.
2019 Mazda CX-5: Powertrains
For the power delivery, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 will rely on the 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G non-turbo four-cylinder engine. Mazda equipped this engine with the cylinder deactivation system for the 2018 model year. The engine can produce 187 horsepower and torque of 185 pound-feet. The pair with the engine will be a six-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive comes by default and all-wheel drive as an option.
This powertrain will provide 25 mpg in city and 31 highways with the power on the front wheels. The all-wheel drive will return 24/30 mpg city/highway.
The diesel option was promised and it should appear in time for the 2019 version. A 2.2-liter SKYACTIVE-D diesel four-cylinder mill will likely offer the manual shifting option. The power should be around 173 hp.
2019 Mazda CX-5: Arrival, Price
The arrival of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is expected in late 2018. The price will start at around $24, 000 for the base version. The priciest version will climb over $30k.
