With the styling that gets attention, luxurious and comfortable cabin, and plenty of safety and another tech, the compact Lexus NX crossover is definitely worth a look. But aside from modern looks and equipment this model also delivers almost car-like handling and comes with appealing powertrain options including the hybrid version. This crossover is a relatively new model with the debut in 2015 and recent mid-cycle update for the 2018 version. The model competes with luxury-badged models like the Acura RDX, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC, etc.
For the 2018 model year, automaker updated model’s styling, added new equipment, changed name of the base version and revised suspension system. A year after the mid-update, the 2019 Lexus NX is expected to continue with minor changes in equipment organization and possibly with new color and wheel options.
2019 Lexus NX: Styling
The Lexus NX is based on the same underpinning as the Toyota RAV4 but two models have distinctive stylings and attitudes. The model makes the bold visual statement with sculpted body lines and love-or-hate spindle grille. Lexus updated the styling of this model for its 2018 version and changes were made on the front and rear end.
The newest version has more aggressive front fascia with gaping spindle grille and attractive L-shaped LED accents bellow swept-back headlights. The taillights also look attractive and include L-shaped motif as well. The model also offers the F Sport package which adds black treatment to the grille, side mirrors and racy accents around the body.
As for the 2019 Lexus NX version, the styling will stay in the current form and notable changes will be seen when the new-generation arrives.
Inside the NX brings the sophistication of the higher class and interior is also rich with shapes like the exterior. The model also has many soft and padded sections including also stitched materials. The cabin is comfortable and quiet. The front passengers will enjoy in greater comfort than rear thanks to well-made front seats. The cargo capacity will limit to 54.6 cubes.
Lexus added new textures, upgraded infotainment features and more standard active safety systems for the 2018 version. So, the 2019 model won’t bring much new in the game.
The standard equipment will include power seats, dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-inch center display, LED cabin lighting, voice commands, etc. Standard will also be adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, etc.
Upgrades will bring heated and ventilated seats, navigation, larger center screen, sport-tuned suspension, etc.
2019 Lexus NX: Powertrain options
When it comes to the power options, the 2019 Lexus NX will return with the same capabilities. The base NX300 version will again rely on the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This option provides 235 hp at 5, 700 rpm. The max torque of 258 lb-ft is available between 1, 600- 4000 rpm. Lexus will offer this engine with the 6-speed auto transmission and front- or all-wheel drive.
The hybrid version, NX300h, will combine the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and Toyota’s two-motor electric system. This system uses the continuously variable automatic transmission. The engine makes 154 hp and the net output is 194 hp.
As for the fuel economy, we should expect the same figures as the current version. The base NX will return 22/28 mpg city/highway. The F Sport version with low-profile tires, sport-tuned suspension, and all-wheel drive will be at 22/27 mpg. The hybrid version will earn 33/30 mpg.
2019 Lexus NX: Arrival, Price
The 2019 Lexus NX should follow brand’s usual release scheme late in the year. The price won’t change much. The current version starts from $35, 985. The gas-electric version costs $38, 355.
